Chi Omega Receives Top Honors for Alcohol Prevention Efforts

Chi Omega was recently distinguished as a top educational organization amongst administrators and professionals from higher education institutions nationwide.  Chi Omega received the Prevention Excellence Award with highest honors for the achieved excellence in our alcohol prevention efforts in the 2009-2010 academic year.  The award recognizes Chi Omega’s comprehensive implementation of our web-based training program GreekLifeEdu, thus significantly improving the quality of our members’ lives.

Former S.H. Jean Mrasek accepted the award on behalf of Chi Omega at the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) annual conference in March.  NASPA membership is comprised of more than 8,000 university presidents, administrators, student affairs and higher education professionals and 1,175 campus members nationwide.

GreekLifeEdu is made possible by thoughtful supporters of the Chi Omega Foundation’s Annual Fund.  This past year, twenty-five chapters in the West and Panhandle regions were underwritten by the Saunders Family Foundation, which includes Gayle Perry Saunders, Iota/U of Texas; her daughter Meredith Saunders Mason, Xi Kappa/Texas A&M U; and Gayle’s daughter-in-law Farrell Harris Saunders, Iota/U of Texas.  Fifty chapters in the Great Lakes, Plains/Mountains, Central South and Southeast regions were underwritten by Sue Morten Rogers, Sigma Alpha/Miami U, and her husband Jack.

Every collegian participating in GreekLifeEdu receives program support, including online tools, podcasts, and motivational, engaging e-mails sent throughout the training.  Director of Training and Programming Kimberly Grantham said that the Fraternity’s goal was to frame the training, so that members would be more receptive.

“When it comes to a critical issue like alcohol prevention, we want to provide our members with a training that is worthwhile and meaningful,” said Kimberly.  “We are helping them to connect the dots and understand that what they learn is applicable to all facets of their life.”

For more information about GreekLifeEdu, please contact Kimberly at 901/748-8600 or KGrantham@ChiOmega.com.  If you are interested in underwriting opportunities for GreekLifeEdu, please contact Sally Stephens at SStephens@ChiOmega.com.

The Saunders Family Foundation will once again underwrite GreekLifeEdu for collegiate chapters in the West and Panhandle Regions for the 2010-2011 academic year.  With the help of the Saunders and your gifts to the Annual Fund, the Foundation is committed to helping all 19,000 Chi Omega collegians experience this award-winning training and further develop their skills to make wise decisions.
