A New Year's Message from the Chi Omega Governing Council

As we ring in the New Year, our thoughts turn to optimism and renewal. As you consider your personal resolutions for 2010, I invite you to reflect upon the following inspirational points and new-year transitions taking place in our Fraternity.

Identify or re-affirm your core values. Do you embody these values? The highest compliment to a Chi Omega is to say she epitomizes The Symphony or lives our ritual. Practice humility, ethical behavior, and integrity. Learn to trust your intuition.

Our fall recruiting schools are preparing for the initiation of our newest members. Through the new member program, these women have flourished as they learned the rich history, traditions, and expectations of Chi Omega membership. They now look forward to experiencing Chi Omega's beautiful ritual where lessons for life coupled with the poetry of The Symphony bind our Sisterhood together in the realization of our highest purposes.

Strive for excellence in all you do - whether in academic pursuits, a professional career, personal relationships, leadership opportunities, or volunteer endeavors.

New collegiate officers have been elected and will undergo special training to prepare them to lead their chapters effectively. The Governing Council challenges our outgoing collegiate officers to provide comprehensive training for the new officers so that there is smooth transition and the opportunity for an immediate impact by the new leaders.

Search for beauty in your life and the greater world. Take time to nourish your soul through the beauty of nature or simplest of pleasures. Use the good china, plant flowers, take a 10-minute vacation in your mind, or walk the beach at sunrise.

In February, the Nancy Walton Laurie Leadership Institute of Chi Omega will launch its newest module: Cultivating Your Leadership: Competence, Compassion, Courage, Commitment. Participants to the flagship session at the Executive Headquarters in Memphis, TN will have an opportunity to define their leadership style and to improve their skills through a dynamic, four-factor approach to leadership.

Expand your sphere of influence. As the largest women's fraternity, Chi Omega Sisters are connected to each other and beyond so wherever you go, whatever you do, Chi Omegas will be there.

Our spring recruiting schools are busy preparing for recruitment and welcoming their new members. When initiations occur over the next month, Chi Omega's membership will increase to over 300,000 initiated members - a significant milestone in the history of our Sisterhood. Each new member expands the network of friendships that can be found across geography and generations.

Serve others. Through our founding purpose, Chi Omegas embrace the concept of selflessly giving time, talent, or resources to make a difference in the lives of others. What you receive in return will enrich your life beyond measure.

The Governing Council joins me in offering best wishes for a healthy, safe, and prosperous 2010.
