Adding an Alumnae Chapter to the Chi Omega Family

How Are New Chi Omega Alumnae Chapters Started?
Step 1: An alumna expresses interest in starting a new group by contacting her regional alumnae director (RAD) and local Sisters. To get your area RAD’s name and contact information, call the Executive Headquarters at 901/748-8600 or go to www.ChiOmega.com/EveryDay>Leaders>Regional Alumnae Directors.

Step 2: A launch team is formed to grow the group of perspective members. An intergenerational, five-woman team from different initiating chapters is a best practice. They define the geographic area their prospective chapter will cover, then get a list of alumnae, including contact information, living in that area.

Step 3: The first events are planned and executed by the launch team, focusing on socializing and discussing how to organize the chapter. Event invitations via email are the most effective way to reach Sisters; a second choice, if funds are available, is to mail invitations or postcards.

Step 4:
The launch team organizes the membership roster, applies for a tax ID number, opens a bank account, creates a budget, writes bylaws to establish guidelines for the chapter, selects officers, schedules the kinds and number of events the members are interested in, and collects alumnae chapter dues.

Step 5: The new alumnae chapter is officially chartered with an installation ceremony conducted by a member of the group. Proposed bylaws, officer and membership rosters, and the year’s calendar of events are distributed at this meeting.

Step 6: Recruit members, invite participation, and promote events by creating a chapter website (free to all alumnae chapters!) and Facebook page, and using the many resources provided on www.ChiOmega.com/EveryDay.

Connecting with Sisters from all walks of life allows opportunities to learn from one another, grow together, and enjoy each other’s friendship. Chi Omega is for a lifetime!
