Kimberly Earle speaking on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., for MADD’s 30th anniversary

Chi Omegas Flourish

MADD CEO Champions Open Communication With Teens

With a daughter nearing college graduation, Kimberly Neyman Earle, a Rho Alpha initiate, remembers fondly her own college experience at the U of Missouri–Columbia. “Even though many years have passed, I still remember how my Chi Omega Sisters helped me adjust in a positive way to college life,” she said. “What an amazing group of fun, smart women!”

Kimberly has had the opportunity to work with many such women in her career. She is the chief executive officer of Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) and was formerly chief operating officer of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

At MADD, Kimberly launched PowerTalk 21™, the national day—each April 21—for parents to start year-round conversations with their kids about alcohol. Partners like Nationwide Insurance, the NFL, National PTA, and others helped spread the word. Archie Comics even included a PowerTalk 21 storyline featuring football star Jason Witten of the Dallas Cowboys in its April issue.

During the PowerTalk 21 kickoff, and now with a special emphasis on back to school, MADD’s Power of Parents, It’s Your Influence® handbook (get it free at madd.org/powerofparents) helps parents have potentially lifesaving conversations with their kids. “Three out of four kids say their parents are still the number-one influence on their decisions about alcohol,” Kimberly said. “We wanted to share the facts. For example, one in five teens binge drink, while only one in 100 parents believes his or her child binge drinks. We also give parents a proven way to make a difference.”

This fall, Kimberly encourages Chi Omegas to keep themselves and their loved ones safe by making smart personal choices and maintaining open lines of communication with the young people in their life.
