Let's Talk About It

Chi Omega is a Priceless Value

How many times have you heard naysayers of the Greek experience explain that being in a sorority is just a way
to buy friends?

All of the gold bullion stored in Ft. Knox would not begin to measure up to the value of our Chi Omega Sisterhood.
Does it take money to plan and execute collegiate and alumnae educational programs, philanthropic events, social gatherings, and technology tools? You bet. The current national dues and fees our collegians paid in 2011
are as follows:

• National New Member Fee: $55.00
• National Initiation Fee: $110.00
• Risk Management Fee: $25.00/year
• National Membership Fee: $65.00/year

The secret to Chi Omega’s ongoing success is and will be alumnae who are engaged and connected to the organization through their time, talents, and resources. Chi Omega does not charge national alumnae dues. Local alumnae chapters request dues to support their local Chi Omega alumnae events.

In January, I was in Tampa for a Chi Omega Today presentation for the local alumnae. There were so many precious stories about a variety of alumnae events. Join in the fun in your own community!

The Chi Omega Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Chi Omega. Grants from the Chi Omega Foundation help close the gap between dues collected and the annual Fraternity budget for items such as leadership training, educational programs, and technology. In addition to providing grants to the Fraternity, the Foundation serves as the key conduit for hundreds of annual scholarships. Please give thoughtful consideration to adding the Chi Omega Foundation to your list of annual philanthropic gifts. Whether it is a gift to the annual fund of $18.95 or becoming a member of the 1895 Society ($1,000/year), the benefits your gift will provide to our members are priceless.

Even with a challenging economy and the increasing cost of higher education, Greek membership is at an alltime high. Chi Omega pledged 6,939 new members in the 2010–11 academic year—a new record! Hooty, hoot, hoot! Potential new members (rushees) see value not only in the viable purposes of fraternal life but in the commitment of our members to fulfill those purposes on a day-to-day basis.

Chi Omega is more than a four-year experience in college; it is a lifetime of Sisterhood from every corner of the country and of every generation. From the vintage new member (pledge) poem, we have always known in our hearts, “Chi Omega friendship is worth more than gold..."
