Phi Gamma Honored by Greater Houston Women's Chamber of Commerce

Ayse McCracken, Phi Gamma/LSU, was honored on December 8, 2011 by the Greater Houston Women's Chamber of Commerce at a gala event at the Intercontinental Hotel as a 2011 Hall of Fame inductee. A CPA, she is chief executive officer of the Memorial Hermann Medical Group (MHMG), a subsidiary of Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in Texas serving the greater Houston community through 11 hospitals, a vast network of affiliated physicians, and numerous specialty programs and services. She is responsible for leading the continued growth of the System’s employed physician group, MHMG.

Prior to joining Memorial Hermann, Ms. McCracken was senior vice president of The Methodist Hospital System (TMH), a Houston-based organization of five facilities with the world-renowned Methodist Hospital as its hub. There, her responsibilities included supporting the organization’s physician- related strategies and serving as the CEO for TMH Physician Organization. Under her leadership, TMH Physician Organization grew from 185 employed physicians to more than 300 physicians representing more than 20 medical specialties.

From 1995 through 2007, Ayse was employed by Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH), where she initiated a wholly owned subsidiary to provide pediatric primary care services across the city. Initially hired as CEO of this new subsidiary, within one year she was promoted to president and later was also given the title of senior vice president of TCH. Under her leadership, TCH grew to become the nation’s largest and most profitable pediatric primary care group comprised of more than 1,000 employees, of which 185 were general pediatricians providing services to over 20% of all Houston area children.

While at Texas Children’s, Ayse helped established five pediatric primary care practices in Houston’s low income, medically underserved communities. In partnership with community pediatrician Dr. Robert Austin, Project Medical Home was founded and she raised in excess of $1.5 million from local and national philanthropies to support sites that served 10,000+ patients each year.

Having an interest in promoting global health, Ayse worked to strengthen relationships between TCH and its partners in Turkey. Her efforts resulted in establishing a relationship between TCH, Baylor College of Medicine, and Turkey’s Ministry of Health.

In addition to a degree in business from Louisiana State U, Ayse has a master’s in business administration from the U of Texas McCombs School of Business. She is also an alumna of the Center for Houston Future, a senior fellow of the American Leadership Forum, and past chair of the Executive Women’s Partnership, a subcommittee of the Greater Houston Partnership. She serves as a member of the National Board of Medical Examiners and board member of the YMCA of Greater Houston.

Ayse and her husband, Grant, have one son, who recently graduated from Grinnell College.
