Pure Gold: Adventures With Six Rescued Golden Retrievers

Inspired by the lives, antics, and talents of her six rescued or second-hand golden retrievers, Holli Mounts Pfau has written an insightful, sensitive tale of unexpected adventures, personal growth, and the important roles our pets play in our lives and in the lives of others. The memoir is a heartfelt journey alongside the serious, quirky, loving, and rambunctious dogs that enriched and transformed her life.

How did Holli’s transformation begin? “One by one,” she writes, “they arrived on the doorstep, each dog burdened with issues and baggage. Bodie needed eye surgery; Tucker needed two new hips; Sophie feared the world; Daisy and Chatter brought seemingly endless behavior and training issues. Only Nikki arrived as perfect as a dog could be. Good thing, too. She was the first and paved the way for the others.”

Rescued from abandonment, neglect, unhappy owners, shelters, and possible euthanasia, each dog led Holli down paths she never would have found without them: abandonment of an 18-year corporate position in marketing and public relations; a second college degree in recreational therapy; a new and pioneering career as a co-founder of a nationally recognized hospital program of animal-assisted therapy and the creator-instructor of related materials; wilderness adventures; relocation from urban Los Angeles to Colorado’s rural Rocky Mountains; agility and obedience competitions; and now the author of her first book, with others in the planning stages.

Inspired by the efforts of Golden Retriever Rescue, Holli has dedicated her book about life with her beloved goldens to rescue volunteers and the animals they save. Profits support dog rescue and adoption programs.
