Chi-O-Hio Celebrates a Half Century of Sisterhood
Chi-O-Hio Day celebrated 50 years of statewide Sisterhood events and accomplishments with a two-day program, April 13–14 this year, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dublin, a Columbus suburb. Attending were several hundred Sisters from collegiate and alumnae chapters across the state.
The first Chi-O-Hio Day was held in Columbus in March 1957 and was organized by the Columbus Alumnae and the Zeta Alpha collegians at Ohio State U. Today, the Chi Omega Alumnae Association, State of Ohio, plans Chi-O-Hio Day, during which an outstanding alumna and collegian are honored. The organization is especially proud of funding the office of the director of alumnae development at the Executive Headquarters and of establishing the Chi-O-Hio Foundation Scholarship.
Honored guests attending the 50-year celebration included S.H. Jean Mrasek; S.N.V. Letitia Fulkerson; Chi Omega Executive Director Anne Emmerth; Chi Omega Foundation Trustee Martha Bradshaw; Regional Director Holly Beuke, Mu Lambda/U of Dayton; National Consultant Michaela Mickey, Zeta Delta/U of Nebraska–Omaha; Great Lakes RAD and Chi-O-Hio Board President Janie Cochran; Chi O Creations Board member Tammy Watkins Green, Upsilon Beta/Rollins College; and newly appointed Director of Alumnae Development Katie Keane.
Friday’s events began at the Zeta Alpha house where a traditional memorial service was followed by dinner. For the evening, alumnae returned to the hotel where they enjoyed more social time, a chance to peruse raffle items, and an opportunity to look through the Chi-O-Hio scrapbooks.
Available during event registration on Saturday morning were the Chi Omega Foundation’s owl tree, Chi-O-Hio raffle items, a Make-A-Wish® display, and the popular Chi O Creations mini-boutique. A workshop, "Chi Omega Today," was presented by Anne, Letitia, Holly, Martha, and Michaela, and graduating seniors were recognized for their service to Chi Omega.
The highlight of the day was the luncheon, hosted by Chi-O-Hio President Janie Cochran. The Founders Ceremony kicked off the festivities, followed by a PowerPoint presentation featuring 50 years of Chi-O-Hio Day and the organization’s accomplishments. Guest speaker, S.H. Jean Mrasek, presented a "Toast to Chi Omega," which marked significant dates in the Fraternity’s history as well as memorable dates and people in the history of Chi Omega in Ohio. Awards, scholarship presentations, and the installation of new officers followed. The traditional singing of Shades concluded the two-day event.
